Slip cast and assembled teapots with on glaze transfer decoration.

This set of work was modelled directly from McDonalds packaging to create the main body of each teapot. The handles and spouts were made by hand and then moulds were created from these. The teapots are slip cast porcelain. The decoration was applied by using on glaze transfer which was also taken directly from the packaging. The additional on glaze colour was applied by hand.

With this work I wanted to make a statement about the social implications of fast food and the decline of the occasion of sitting down and having a proper cup of tea, complete with teapot and a plate of biscuits. Society has become used to the fast food culture of instant and easy gratification; losing the pleasure of taking time over creating a meal and sitting down to enjoy it with other people.

The teapots were designed to provoke a response, whether it be humour or revulsion, and to make people think about the message behind them.
